2010 Rowan's Run
Once again the club will do their annual run up the lake to Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park. The fleet, of three or four boats, are to leave the sailing club around 11:00 on Friday June 18 with an ETA of 19:00. Saturday will be spent enjoying the Provincial Park and sailing that area of the lake. If you do not sail up, you could always just drive to the Park and join us on the Saturday. We will be BBQing on Saturday evening. As usual it will be a BYO Food and Drink. There is camping in the Provincial Park and the club has rented at least one cabin at the marina, so we have a place to meet. The Fleet plans to sail back on Sunday, ETD around 11:00. Get in touch with Helen or Sandy ASAP if you want to come with us. Or just sail/drive up yourself and hope to get a slip/or contact us there. If you want to call, call my cell number 540-8286 – but I am not sure there is service at all times between RSC and Rowans Ravine. There is cell coverage at the marina plus messages can be left at the outfitters who run the marina shop/chandlers. There may be a boat with skipper Don and First Mate Katherine (Spencer) aboard with home port up there, will come down the lake partway to escort us in – or maybe back out on Sunday! They are getting in a few hours “simulation” for their Greek Island cruise later this summer – so you know the weather will be good for us! Currently we have three boats for sure – maybe four going up Friday or Saturday if weather too wet (we want to enjoy not just survive the trip!). or the latest. We have one cabin booked for both Friday and Saturday night – and hopefully a second (depending on cancellations). The cabins can sleep lots and also it provides a means to access a fridge/stove/toilets and showers for everyone – even these who decide to sleep aboard at the sheltered marina or camp. I will have a propane BBQ with me and there is also a briquette BBQ with each cabin/camp site. Given a Friday start it provides a day off on Saturday to explore the northern part of the lake, or to fish or just hang out at the marina and beach. It's a bring your own food and booze deal, but there is a very good licensed restaurant on site as well as a shop which sells everything - food to rubber boots! If you decide to just cruise one way – you have about 30 minutes to get into and dropped off and back out of the Provincial Park or else there is a Park entrance fee. Over 65's get in free. There is no Park charge if you arrive by boat – but there is a $10.00 slip charge. We have 3 double slips reserved.
